Re: Occupancy Load for a Running Track

I would use 100 psf.  Every running track I have seen doesn't get packed with spectators, but the runners on them seem to make alot of noise (vibration/insufficient stiffness?).

What would be the occupancy load of an elevated running track that wraps a gymnasium floor?  My first impulse is to use 100 psf for assembly because people could stand up there to watch an event.  The more I think about it though it is impractical to fill a 10 ft. wide running track with people for an event unless there were raised bleachers added to allow the back rows to see.  If realistically only 3 rows deep of people standing could watch an event wouldn’t a lower occupancy loading be more realistic for the entire track support?

What are others using fro running track live loads?
