"Following Mr. Copp’s tips puts one in greater danger
from these falling hazards. And in the rare occasions
that buildings do collapse during an earthquake in the
United States, survivable voids do not necessarily fit
the descriptions presented by Mr. Copp.

Members of SEAOC have been writing earthquake building
codes, designing structures that resist earthquake
forces, and investigating earthquake damage worldwide
since the 1930’s.

We believe that the “Triangle of Life” theory of
surviving a building collapse instills a false
sense of security and may subject the public to
unnecessary harm and injury.

In SEAOC’s considered opinion, the drop, cover, and
hold on strategy still represents the best way to
protect one’s self in an earthquake. We highly
recommend visiting the Federal Emergency Management
Agency’s web site at

and the State of California Office of Emergency
Service’s web site at
http://www.oes.ca.gov/CEPM2003.nsf/htmlmedia/brochure.pdf/$file/brochure2000_bw.pdf
for detailed information on avoiding injury in an
earthquake.

The Structural Engineers Association of California is
a nonprofit organization of nearly
4000 members dedicated to advancing the structural
engineering profession, protecting
public safety in the built environment, and serving
the business and professional needs of the
membership."

Dear Dave Evans:

After the sheer ineptitude, incompetence and disregard for life that FEMA exhibited during Hurricane Katrina by letting corpses, rot on the streets for rats to feed upon day after day, week after week most people will have learned something about FEMA.

Surely everyone can begin to understand why I have been having a running battle with FEMA, for 19 years; because, they used foreign disasters as an opportunity for exploitation and covert intelligence operations; instead of, saving lives.

Regarding the Governor's Office of Emergency Services. I was asked by GOES to attend a meeting in Sacramento, in 1985 because I was the ONLY one with any real experience. I later hosted an official GOES meeting. I was told to keep quiet about 'duck and cover' killing people. I wouldn't. We parted ways.

The fact that SEAC designs buildings for safety has nothing to do with surviving after the building has collapsed. It is irrelevant. You bring it up only to open an area of contention. I have nothing but the most profound respect for the members of SEAC but, again,  that has nothing to do with surviving building collapse or any of the issues addressed.

It doesn't matter if the official position of SEAC has been in place for 40 years, 100 years or for 'all eternity'. It is wrong. It is false. It kills and it needs to be changed by people who have the integrity and courage to do the right thing. Period.

Our new video has excerpts of Bert the Safety Turtle and the cold war safety commercials from Dept. of Civil Defense . To avoid panic and calm the people after the Russians got the atomic bomb..'duck and cover' was created. The family on a picnic , in the forest, 'duck and cover' when they see the atomic flash. They get under the blanket for protection. The father, at the barbecue, can't get to the blanket because he is too far away..so he 'drops to the ground', and ducks under a newspaper by holding it over his head.

Can you really as an engineer, as a human being, as anybody with any sense 'whatsoever' recommend that people continue with this rubbish?

Duck and cover is death, nonsense, inappropriate and created for 'brainwashing' the masses and remains as a dark testimony as to the extent some forces will go to 'maintain control' and the extent to which people can be gullible.

It is over. The cat is out of the bag. It is only a matter of time until decency, sanity and truth prevail.
