I think the 15psi thing is what is given as a value for non reinforced section against radial tension stresses for Doug-Fir.  Chech your AITC manual.  It seems that radial tension is somewhat the same as cross grain tension, just produced for different reasons.

I obviously haven't looked enough.  Does anyone have an ideas for (allowable) tension across timber fibres (for DFir in this case)?

 

Don't ask why I want that!  I'm doing a "what if" or "how about" investigation that is taking me out to Mars and back :^)
