The NDS requires 4 bolt diameters from the centerline of the bolt to the loaded edge of a wood member and 1.5 bolt diameters from the centerline of the bolt to the unloaded edge of the wood member. Does this mean for a wood beam that is loaded with gravity load and is supported at its end by a steel plate on each side (no bearing bucket under the beam) with bolts, that the 4D dimension is from the centerline of the top bolt to the top of the beam and the 1.5D dimension is from the centerline of the bottom bolt to the bottom of the beam? ******* ****** ******* ******** ******* ******* ******* *** * Read list FAQ at: http://www.seaint.org/list_FAQ.asp * * This email was sent to you via Structural Engineers * Association of Southern California (SEAOSC) server.
