David, 2 areas that I wish were researched and cheap to do are the following: Anchor bolts: At what size does the head of an anchor rod size loose the ability to develop the cone. When one calculates the bearing pressure under the head of a cast in place anchor rod, it is very large. The testing would consist of taking a series of anchor rods and machining the head smaller and smaller and testing them until the cone fails to develop. I have a ton of research papers that touch on the subject, but none address it directly. Steel wide flange beam reinforcement under load and unloaded: This topic has again been addressed only indirectly, and I could provide you with the references. The question is what effect does an existing load on a beam have when one welds reinforcing plates on the beam. The testing would be to take a series of wide flange beams, load the beams to an incremental percentage of its capacity, weld reinforcing plates on the beam, and load the reinforced beams to yield. The control would be taking the same series of beams, weld the reinforcing plates on the beam with no load, then load the beams to yield.
